about

I wrote this song in February 2018 to mark the 100 anniversary of women winning the right to vote.
This was one of the songs that I shared and performed with She Sings a women's singing group that I run.

We raised funds for Tree Sisters by singing and dancing through the streets of our town in celebration of International Women's Day and marking the centenary of women winning the right to vote.

The photo of the song is of us standing together in 100 in the centre of our town.
The song is deeply inspired by many brave and brilliant women, some of whom I am fortunate to know and work with. Women who are currently doing brilliant and much needed therapeutic, environmental and political work with inner and outer deep ecology ways of working.

It was also inspired by the Timeline created about Margaret Hills who was a Suffragist amd lived and worked in Stroud
This song honours the ancient Brave Woman archetype that resides in all of us and sings down our matriarchal lines offering gratitude to all who courageously came before us and on whose shoulders we stand.

lyrics

Oh one hundred years of time
I am reaching back and singing down my mother’s line
My mother’s line, for this is our time.

Oh brave woman hear us roar
We are raging like the rivers and the oceans in the storm
We are the storm and our time has come.
We are the ones that we’ve been waiting for

Oh brave woman I hear your call
We are singing through the darkness, deepest before dawn
Before the dawn, can you hear her call?
Oh brave woman speaking out
We are raising up our voices, to call the shadows out
To call them out
We boldly call them out

Oh brave woman see us cry
We are grieving all the losses, forever asking why-
Oh why so much loss of life?
Oh brave women hold on
For we are standing for our children, the ones who’ve yet to come
All the ones, who have yet to come.

Oh one hundred years of time
We are reaching back and singing down our mother’s lines
Our mother’s lines, for this is our time
Oh brave woman hear us roar
We are raging like the rivers and the oceans in the storm
We are the storm, and our time has come.
We are the ones that we’ve been waiting for

Oh brave woman walking on
With every step now don’t forget that, you are not alone
For all who’ve passed, they are cheering us on
Oh brave woman in blessed unrest
Keep on scheming and resisting, inhabiting the edge
We are the edge, in our blessed unrest

Oh one hundred years of time
We are reaching back and singing down our mother’s lines
Our mother’s lines, for this is our time
Oh brave woman hear us roar
We are raging like the rivers and the oceans in the storm
We are the storm, and our time has come.
We are the ones that we’ve been waiting for
