about
This song was inspired by the Teifi estuary in West Wales where I used to live.I realise that I have lived next to rivers and estuaries all of my life! The song came to me as a 'medicine song', inspired by the wisdom within the ever present cycles of nature reminding me and showing me over and over again, how to live with change...as change seems to be a constant theme in anything living!
I wrote this song at a time of loss and letting go in my life. I was in a deep enquiry of how to be with emptiness of being in a 'nowhere' state, of 'low tide'
So often these are painful places to feel into and so are (understandably) avoided and denied.
Yet, they are an essential place to rest into, to learn from, to be with as they can offer us so much.
To allow that process which paradoxically, in the deep surrender to the natural flow of life, death and rebirth, can release and shift into a sense of peacefulness, creativity and vitality.
Nowhere to go but here ...the opening line is inspired by mindful practice and radical acceptance.
The song celebrates both the ebb and flow and is a reminder that we are all carried by a greater tide which represents moving away from old ways of being/living, letting things die away for new ways and new life to be born.
It is dedicated to the work of Women In Power where it resides.
lyrics
Nowhere to go but here, no words to say but these
No song to sing but this one that’s falling from my lips
Nowhere to run now, nowhere left to hide
No song to sing but this one that’s falling from the skies…
Empty as a shell, empty as a cup
A dusty river bed before the rains flood
A hollow bone, with space inside
I gather myself in, as I await the new tide
The new tide
Nowhere go but here, all is quiet and still
Here is a resting place yearning to be filled…
Empty as a shell, empty as a cup
A dusty river bed before the rains flood
A hollow bone, with space inside
I gather myself in, as I await the new tide
The tides are turning now, returning now
Opening my arms wide
The tides are turning now
She is returning now and I am carried by the tide
Carried by the tide carried by the tide carried by the tide
Carried by the tide carried by the tide carried by the tide...tonight
